“The Life and Times of Some Kid.”
In 2019 I exhibited this series of work at the Urban Cow Studio, called “The Life and Times of Some kid”.
In my younger years I had experienced a bit of loss. A few of my teenage friends had passed away quite young, as well as family, customers at work, ect. I had recently been sexually abused by an art collector who I was quite close with, and I was really struggling to get by financially after what felt life continual setbacks.
I felt a sense of finality, that my life was no longer fun, and moving into a quieter heavier depressive era, a “welcome to the real world” type era. I felt that a lot of my innocence had been lost, and I didn’t have the life experience to know that everything is always up and down and all around in life.
This series of work was me compartmentalising the loss of my innocence and the loss of my friends. The series was 15 paintings, each one representing a different moment in a young persons life. Beginning at conception, and ending at the characters early death in a car accident, this work takes you through early childhood, birthday celebrations, experiencing sexuality, and self-discovery. This series was me saying that:
“Even If you have a short life, it is still of a lot of worth”.
