Sleepy Sleepy fellows Garden Fellows

$700.00

Artwork Details

MediumOil, Canvas, Ready to hangDimensions91.2cm (W) x 121.1cm (H) x 3.5cm (D)

This painting is from a series of work I exhibited in Adelaide, in 2025. The series was exhibited under the name “Clang”

The works in this series were tongue in cheek reflections of the artist. They show light hearted humour and staring at the sun sincerity. This body of work reflected on a recent car accident I had, putting me in hospital for six days and leaving with a bad heart, and my experience as an artist practicing for over a decade. Resulting with work on themes of anxiety surrounding issues of the self, the body, urbanisation, climate, and artistry.

This work is named after a poem it reads:

“Sleepy, sleepy fellows, garden fellows
painted bright red, green and yellow.
Purple and brown clown,
Walking down hallways with candles lit in a nightgown.
I paint the town, baby I paint it, jumping up and down turning frowns upside down.
Hannibal Lecter in my lecture,
Teaching class, looking at my ass.
I sit at my desk, it’s a mess,
the dishes I left last night when,
Stressed,
I left them dirty in duress.
God bless, “you know the rest” (this mess)
Is what mum says, in a polka dot dress.
Calmly calmly I place my hand on my chest and here comes mr Lecter scowling over his desk.
At me ?
I can’t see what he sees, I look behind,
Nothing, no sign, just an empty amphitheatre,
No bug, no hair or lice here either.
“Oh please” he reminds looking at the time,
“You’re mine till five, draw your eyes from the dishes to here, problem five.”
Problem five is a question about nine guys putting 6 jocks and knickers over four metres of clothes line.“
